Upheaval is based on the true story of Brita Olsdotter, a young mother in 19th Century Sweden, a time when the state church ruled every aspect of life.

Brita and her husband Olof toil tirelessly on their family farm where it snows half the year, wheat won’t grow, and the nearest hospital is a two-day’s wagon-ride away.

When self-appointed prophet Erik Janson arrives in their valley, he opens Brita’s eyes to the injustices of the church, but if she and Olof defy their powerful pastor and join Janson’s sect, they risk backlash from the entire community, punishment from the powers that be, and perhaps even their lives.
